New Adventures

For as long as I can remember I’ve always had a love for photography. From my first film camera up to my DSLRs, perfecting my craft has been a lifelong adventure. Looking for the next great shot, trying new techniques, experimenting with lighting it’s all been a challenge that I readily embrace.

In recent years my interest in drone technology has increased. Again, with the advancements I’ve longed for the opportunity to gain new perspectives using a drone for photography. I had tried a couple amateur drones, primarily just to learn how to fly one, but they almost squashed my desire to even get a higher-end drone.

A few months ago I decided to finally make the leap and buy a more advanced drone. Based on price and much research I chose the DJI Air 3S. It’s packed with some awesome features and really a solid device. Because of FAA requirements (weight of the drone), I registered it with the FAA and completed my recreational pilot training by completing the FAA TRUST.

Everything I had read made it seem that recreational is extremely restrictive, by that I mean is that even if I shot drone footage/photography and gave it to someone for no compensation, that it would still be considered commercial. It was because of this that I decided to pursue my Part 107 certificate. Rather than trying to fit all this into a single post I’ll be covering more of these topics in future posts so check back often.
